Our Story
Basil’s Fine Foods is the vision that owners Basil and Giannina Borgomastro dreamed of creating years ago, enabling them to use their European background and decades of food retail experience to bring the local community in Perth’s northern suburbs something a little different.
Since July 2006, when Basil and Giannina seized the opportunity to acquire the shop, they started to make extensive store changes to transform the existing Mindarie So Fresh store into the dream they had envisioned. Over time, the entire shop floor was refurbished and the shop’s size was expanded to introduce a new kitchen, delicatessen, bakery and coffee area for its customers. The new, improved store layout and design together with its new product focus towards offering gourmet food products was accomplished, and gave Basil and Giannina the motivation to change the name of the store to Basil’s Fine Foods in July 2013.
Today’s new, improved Basil’s gives its customers so many gourmet food possibilities to choose from. Whether it’s the best, freshest, most flavoursome fruit and vegetables you love or the unique and wonderful collection of gourmet food products to discover or the time-saving, convenient and delectable Chef-prepared Signature salads, meals and more, or the pleasant BFF Bar where you can sit down, have a coffee and take a break…we know you’ll come to love what Basil’s has to offer.
Basil Borgomastro
Since the age of 16, Basil has been immersed in the business of food. He was first introduced to the food retail business by his very own family, working alongside his parents in their small, successful continental store in Fremantle. Over the years ahead, Basil advanced his skills and experience, working in several retail and wholesale fresh produce and food businesses. Adding his years of experience together with Basil’s passion for fine food provided the essential ingredients to make Basil’s Fine Foods as unique and wonderful as it is today.
Basil knows what customers want when it comes to the finest and freshest foods. Through Basil’s years in the business, he’s come to realise that supporting WA farmers and local specialist food providers is not only good for the community, but is the best way to give customers something a bit different and also offer the freshest produce available.
